Research Subject (RS) 1.2

Importance of root architecture and rhizosphere-related processes for improving phosphate use efficiency

Our Vision

In Research Subject 1.2 rhizosphere and root-related traits of diverse maize material is analyzed, covering old and elite genotypes. In addition, recently developed doubled haploid lines from landraces are included. Plants are grown under controlled conditions in slightly alkaline soil and their establishment under -P and +P is monitored. Root architectures and morphology of young plants are phenotyped, rhizosphere pH and exudates are sampled to identify superior genotypes at low to moderate P supply.
