The workshop was held by Dr. Julia Verse, an experienced consultant from the Team Scientific Integrity from the Federal Republic of Germany. A total of 17 doctoral researchers participated in the two-day online event. They also included two 1st-generation doctoral researchers from China Agricultural University (CAU), who were staying at the University of Hohenheim as part of their studies. The workshop agenda followed the curriculum “Good Scientific Practice” which was commissioned by and developed in cooperation with the German Research Ombudsman. The main topics included:

  • Good Scientific Practice
  • Data Management
  • Scientific Misconduct
  • Authorship and the Process of Publication
  • Mentoring and Supervision
  • Dealing with Misconduct
  • Ombuds System
  • Rules and Regulations

The format of the live online workshop included short presentations, case discussions, individual work and plenary discussions.

Amongst other national and international regulations and guidelines, namely the DFG Code of Conduct (“Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice”), an introduction to the Hong Kong Principles (HKP) was given, which were developed as part of the 6th World Conference on Research Integrity that took place in Hongkong in 2019. Many practical examples were given, including several of severe misconduct.

A new statute to ensure scientific integrity and good scientific practice has been adopted by the University of Hohenheim in March 2022. Its contents were also reflected as part of the workshop.

This workshop was very well received by the participants.
