Workshop on „Good Scientific Practice“ (online)  [01.04.22]

An online workshop on “Good Scientific Practice” was held on 06 and 07 July 2021, for the doctoral researchers of the 1st generation on the German side, as part of the educational programme of the International Research Training Group AMAIZE-P.

A total of 15 doctoral researchers participated in the two-day online event. It was held by Dr. Julia Verse, an experienced consultant from the Team Scientific Integrity from the Federal Republic of Germany. The agenda followed the curriculum “Good Scientific Practice” which was commissioned by and developed in cooperation with the German Research Ombudsman. The main workshop topics included:

  • Good Scientific Practice
  • Data Management
  • Scientific Misconduct
  • Authorship and the Process of Publication
  • Mentoring and Supervision
  • Dealing with Misconduct
  • Ombuds System
  • Rules and Regulations

The format of the live online workshop included short presentations, case discussions, individual work and plenary discussions.

Amongst other national and international regulations and guidelines, namely the DFG Code of Conduct (“Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice”), an introduction to the Hong Kong Principles (HKP) was given, which were developed as part of the 6th World Conference on Research Integrity that took place in Hongkong in 2019. Many practical examples were given, including several of severe misconduct.

The workshop also connected timely to ongoing activities in the field of research data management and scientific integrity at the University of Hohenheim. A new statute to ensure scientific integrity and good scientific practice has been adopted by the University in 2022.

The workshop was very well received by the participants. A subsequent workshop on “Good Scientific Practice” for the 2nd generation of doctoral researchers in the IRTG AMAIZE-P is scheduled for 17 and 18 May 2022.
